Semi Truck Loan Calculator

Work out the monthly payment on a new or used semi, and what that payment adds to every mile you drive.

The loan

How the payment is calculated

Amount financed = price × (1 + tax %) − down payment − trade-in
Monthly payment = A × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)^−n) r = APR ÷ 12, n = months
Cost per mile = monthly payment ÷ miles per month

Before you sign

  • Keep the truck payment under about $0.25–$0.30 per mile you expect to run.
  • Ask about balloon payments and prepayment penalties.
  • Budget a repair reserve for a used truck. Out-of-warranty engine work can cost $20,000+.

Common questions

What credit score do I need for a semi truck loan?

Lenders vary, but many want 600–650+ for standard rates. Lower scores can still get financing with a larger down payment and a higher rate.

How much down payment for a semi truck?

Typically 10–25%, more for new owner-operators or older trucks.

Is lease-purchase better than a loan?

Usually not. Many lease-purchase deals cost more over time and you build no equity if you leave early. Compare total cost.
